Insectary
The WRAIR Entomology Branch maintains a DoD insectary, supporting critical research on vector biology, insecticide resistance, and countermeasure development. Our facility can house colonies of medically significant arthropods, including mosquitoes and sand flies, enabling controlled studies on disease transmission, vector behavior, and intervention efficacy.
We can conduct standardized testing of insecticides, spatial repellents, and personal protection tools to assess their effectiveness under laboratory and semi-field conditions.
By sustaining diverse vector populations and leveraging advanced bioassays, our insectary plays a pivotal role in developing and validating cutting-edge solutions to protect military personnel from vector-borne diseases.
