The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) and the Henry Jackson Foundation visited São Paulo’s Butantan Institute, also known as Instituto Butantan in Portuguese, from 17–21 February 2025.
During the visit, representatives from WRAIR’s Center for Infectious Disease Research and the Henry Jackson Foundation met with Dr. Esper Kallás, director of the Butantan Institute, and his team. The Butantan Institute specializes in the production of antitoxins and biopharmaceuticals. Their discussions centered on synergizing surveillance and vaccine development efforts, specifically for dengue fever, chikungunya, bunyavirus, and other emerging threats.
