Col. Eli Lozano accepts WRAIR command responsibilities

The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research conducted a change of command ceremony, on Aug. 31, welcoming Col. Eli Lozano as the incoming commander and bidding farewell to Col. Chad A Koenig as the outgoing commander. The ceremony was presided by Brig. Gen. Edward Bailey, Commanding General United States Army Medical Research and Development Command and Fort Detrick.

Leaders discuss capabilities and collaborations during Royal Thai Army Medical Department visit

The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) hosted a Royal Thai Army Medical Department (RTAMED) delegation to explore opportunities for further collaboration and bilateral support on Aug. 10, 2023. The event marked an opportunity to celebrate the 62-year partnership and the first time that an RTAMED delegation visited WRAIR since December 2017.

The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research held a Headquarters and Headquarters Company change of command ceremony at Forrest Glen Annex, June 26. Maj. Shanee E. Allen relinquished command to Capt. John R. Resch, during the ceremony which was presided by Col. Chad Koenig, WRAIR’s commander.

Inspiring future epidemiologist through Army Educational Outreach Program

Kekeli Woyome knew she wanted to become an epidemiologist for the CDC. She joined Eleanor Roosevelt High School’s research practicum program to learn more about infectious disease research, but she wanted more hands-on experience. Woyome heard about the U.S. Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) through a student who participated that summer at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) and soon found herself in an entomology laboratory dissecting mosquitoes. WRAIR has been hosting students of different educational levels for more than 20 years in support of the U.S. Army’s mission to develop a more scientifically and technologically literate citizenry.

With 'Capability Days', USAMRDC charts course for future success

The U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command hosted the second annual Capability Days event from April 4-6 at Fort Detrick, Maryland. The event, designed to spotlight the key roles the command plays in both supporting and expanding the scope of military medicine, attracted more than 200 people from across the U.S. Department of Defense, the larger federal government spectrum and a variety of private sector entities for a sprawling, immersive series of scientific presentations and engaging product demonstrations.

WRAIR welcomes new CSM in change of responsibility ceremony

The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research held a change of responsibility ceremony where Command Sgt. Maj. Rodmond Q. Churchill II relinquished responsibility to Command Sgt. Maj Donald G. Gross III, March 17. The ceremony was presided by Col. Chad Koenig, WRAIR commander, who highlighted Churchill’s accomplishments including leading the organization through the COVID-19 pandemic. Gross and his family were officially welcomed to the organization where he is now the senior enlisted advisor for a distinguished medical research center that has served America’s military for more than 129 years.

New Army brand redefines 'Be All You Can Be' for a new generation

For the first time since 2001, the U.S. Army has introduced a new brand that redefines what it means to “Be All You Can Be” for a new generation. Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth, Army Chief of Staff Gen. James McConville and Sgt. Maj. of the Army Michael Grinston made the announcement during a much-anticipated launch event at the National Press Club. The logo and tagline are a part of a full-brand ecosystem that helps tell the Army story visually and verbally, including a new custom font, an expanded color palette, new iconography, photography, motion graphics and more. A second phase of the campaign will be unveiled later this year, allowing “Be All You Can Be” to reveal a deeper, more personal look at the hopes, fears and dreams of today’s youth. The modern brand and accompanying campaign highlight the vast possibilities of Army service for today’s youth.

U.S. Army Medical Development teams demonstrate latest tech to Dwight D. Eisenhower School visitors

The U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command hosted a group of students, from the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy, for an overview of the U.S. Army’s medical technology development and modernization efforts, Feb 23, 2023. During their visit, team members with the U.S. Army’s Medical Materiel Development Activity, Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense, Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs demonstrated the latest in military medical research, technology and devices currently under development for possible future use by the Joint-Forces.
